House Symbolism Essay In Kate Chopin’s The Awakening, the use of houses symbolizes the level of freedom Edna feels. From the house in the Grand Isle to the house in New Orleans, and finally the Pigeon house, Edna’ Moods and feelings are expressed to the readers. Edna Pontellier is a woman who lives through many houses in the awakening. Each house represents certain levels and expectations that Edna must face. The first house that Edna lives through is the house in New Orleans. While in the house in New Orleans Edna’s level of freedom is very minimal, due to the fact that she is expected to be somebody that she doesn’t want to be. The people who Edna encounters at the house requires that Edna must be a supreme hostess, Edna on the other hand just want to do whatever she pleases without the feeling of being viewed in a wrong way. Edna’s husband Mr. Pontellier is really the main reason why Edna has no type of freedom in the house. He is very controlling believing that a woman should only do what her husband tells her to do. She doesn’t feel happy with her husband treating her like she is property. Edna decides that the House in New Orleans is not where she is going to be independent. Another house that Edna lives in is the house in the Grand Isle. While living in the Grand Isle Edna’s level of freedom is a little higher then what is was at the house in New Orleans, however she still has to face the controlling nature of her husband. Another factor that is stopping Edna to have the freedom and independence is the fact that Leonce is expecting Edna to be a â€Å"mother-woman† which is a woman who worships her husband and cherishes her children, something Edna has no desire to be. The house at the Grand Isle symbolizes the growth in freedom but doesn’t completely satisfy her needs. Finally the last house that Edna lives in is the pigeon house. While in the pigeon house Edna level of freedom is finally accomplished which allows her to be independent and control how she runs her life. Edna does not have to worry about all the material and life objects that Mr. Pontellier has thrown in her life. Although Edna has all the freedom that she wants, Edna finds herself enclosed and isolated by herself with Robert in Mexico. After a while living at the pigeon house Edna started to feel like a prisoner, which ultimately leads to her unification with the sea. All of these house gives Edna different situations which allows her to grow and realize what she truly believes is the right way for her to live her life.

The concept of entrepreneurship is often viewed as a function, which involves the exploitation of opportunities, which exist within a market. Such exploitation is most commonly associated with the direction and/or combination of productive inputs. Entrepreneurs usually are considered to bear risk while pursuing opportunities, and often are associated with creative and innovative actions. In addition, entrepreneurs undertake a managerial role in their activities, but routine management of an ongoing operation is not considered to be entrepreneurship. In this sense entrepreneurial activity is fleeting. An individual may perform an entrepreneurial function in creating an organization, but later is relegated to the role of managing it without performing an entrepreneurial role. In this sense, many small-business owners would not be considered to be entrepreneurs. Individuals within organizations (i.e. non-founders) can be classified as entrepreneurs since they pursue the exploitation of opportunities. Thus intrepreneurship is appropriately considered to be a form of entrepreneurship. The concept of an entrepreneur is further refined when principles and terms from a business, managerial, and personal perspective are considered. In particular, the concept of entrepreneurship from a personal perspective has been thoroughly explored in this century. Third exploration is reflected in the following three definitions of an entrepreneur: In almost all of the definitions of entrepreneurship, there is agreement that we are talking about a kind of behavior that includes: initiative taking, the organizing and reorganising of social and economic mechanisms to turn resources and situations to practical account, and the acceptance of risk or failure. To an economist, an entrepreneur is one who brings resources, labor, materials, and other assets into combinations that make their value greater than before, and also one who introduces changes, innovations, and a new order. To a psychologist, certain forces typically drive such a person: the need to obtain or attain something, to experiment, to accomplis... ... being set up for such cases, but schools, colleges and universities all see this particular area of business as very promising and have began an extensive teaching programme, such courses available include, Law and Entrepreneur, Accountancy and Entrepreneurship. Although at the moment many individuals realise the potential of owning there own business, entrepreneurship is said to be a fad and will more than likely become dated in a way, possibly within the next ten years. However, the overall concept of entrepreneurship -according to Austrian Economist Joseph Schumpeter- is innovation (www.quickmba.com) as wealth is created when such innovation results in new demand. From this viewpoint one can define the function of the entrepreneur as one of combining various input factors in an innovative manner to generate value to the customer with the hope that this value will exceed the cost of the input factors, thus generating superior returns that result in the creation of wealth and this wealth also leads on to how entrepreneurial is an important area of focus because the wealth generated helps the economy, creating jobs, a better state and a better life for all of us.

Masculinity vs. Femininity Geert Hofstede Here you can see four persons, three of them are adults and the other one is a student. One of the adult seems to be the principal of a school, the other two seem to be the parents of that student. Those people are in a room, which seems to be the bureau f the principal since the sign on the door says â€Å"principal†. The reason why the parents of the student and the principal meet is because the student is not good in school. The principal is about to tell them their son will fail the third grade.Then the father says that he doesn’t understand why his son is so bad in school, and asks what they, himself and his wife, did wrong. The wife answers then that her husband is the one that owns a gun. Therefore you can say that the reason why the student is so bad is due to â€Å"family problems†: His father having a gun. The way the wife says â€Å"You’re the one that owns the gun† seems as if the father uses his gun as a warning, this could lead to fear of the son and this would affect the son’s results in school.In this picture you can say that the father has the power in the family especially showed by him owning a gun, and the mother and wife is only his subordinate. That is why this picture is an example for the masculinity versus femininity by Hofstede’s model. This dimension indicates the extent to which dominant values in a society tend to be assertive and look more interested in things than in concerning for people and the quality of life. â€Å"Masculinity is the opposite of femininity; together, they form one of the dimensions of national cultures.Masculinity stands for a society in which social gender roles are dearly distinct: men are supposed to be more modest, tender, and concerned with the quality of life. † (Source: Hofstede, page 262) â€Å"Femininity stands for a society where gender roles overlap: both men and women are supposed to be modest, tender and concerned with the quality of life. † (Hofstede, page 261) The Masculinity and Femininity dimension describes how cultures differentiate between gender roles. Masculine cultures tend to be ambitious and need to surpass.Members of these cultures have a tendency to polarize and consider big and fast to be beautiful. In workplaces employees emphasize their work to a great extent and they admire achievers who accomplished their tasks. Feminine cultures consider quality of life and helping others to fulfill theirselves and help others to achieve their goals . Working is basically to earn money which is necessary for living. In business as well as in private life they strive for consensus and develop sympathy for people who are in trouble.

Madiha Hussain is a young girl whose family is from Pakistan. Pakistan is bordered by Afghanistan to the north-west and Iran to the west while the People s Republic of China borders the country in the north and India to the east. Urdu and English are the official language spoken in Pakistan, however Madiha speaks Arabic and is an Advanced ELL student. Pakistan’s education system is one of the most underdeveloped in the world according to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). It is divided into six different levels: Preprimary (for the age from 2.5 to 5 years); Primary (grades one through five); Middle Elementary (grades six through eight); Secondary/ Trade Vocational (grades nine and ten); intermediate (grades eleven and twelve); and Postsecondary. (Lynd, D., 2007) Article 25-A of Constitution of Pakistan mandates that the state must provide free and compulsory quality education to children in age groups 3 to 16 years of age. However, only 87% of Pakistani children finish primary school education. (Lynd, D., 2007) Madiha’s parents came to America to give their children, 3 daughters, a better life, one that included education. They understood that Pakistan’s educational system is extremely subpar and that their daughters would be unlikely receive a diploma.
